Taunted Cow Shot in English Street

If the Grumpy Vegan was taken inexplicably from his home, put into the back of dirty vehicle without food and water, and transported and sold several times over only to end up waiting to be killed in a slaughterhouse so that some people could eat me, if this were my chance I’d be pretty angry and want to make a break for it. What’s to lose? My days of my life were counted before I was born. My destiny was set unbeknownst to me. So, you find yourself in a place you’ve never been to before. Dazed. Confused. Angry. Hungry. Thirst. Bewildered. Chased and pushed by large vehicles in pathetic attempts to stop me from doing what comes naturally: Protecting myself and my life. But it’s all to no avail. This brief freedom was all too confused and stressful. At least I die in the open air and not on the slaughterhouse floor along with my herd. I would like to see the drivers prosecuted for unnecessary suffering. How’s about it RSPCA?

Animals and Insurance

Further media reports on the adverse impact the plunging economy is having on animals, particularly companion animals, is reported on in The Guardian. This time, however, buried in the report is the following paragraph

Insurance lawyers have also seen cases, usually involving pedigree dogs and show horses, where owners have deliberately maimed or even killed an animal and disguised the incident as an accident to bank a big payout.

Pedigree dog breeders and people who show horses are, according to insurance lawyers, more likely to deliberately maim or even kill an animal in order to commit insurance fraud.

On the one hand, the Grumpy Vegan is shocked but on the other….he’s not.

Vegan Feast

Hastings Old Town residents Polo and Martina invited the Grumpy Vegan and friends to a vegan feast on Thanksgiving evening. We didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving per se but the dinner, nevertheless, was delicious. They’re gracious hosts who are very animal-friendly and explore vegan/vegetarian, cruelty-free living. We were more than happy to be their tasters as they explore vegan cuisine. And to play with Nelson, their handsome rescued canine companion. Salut Polo, Martina and Nelson!

Website of the Week: Vegan Outreach

Could this Vegan Outreach flyer circa 2004 change the world?

The Grumpy Vegan likes Vegan Outreach a lot, which is why they’re Website of the Week.

It’s their uncompromising yet simple approach to, er, simply telling people about the benefits to veganism for all. It’s the optimism that by handing out leaflets, particularly to students on campuses (campi?), that a vegan world can be achieved.

Of course, the Grumpy Vegan doesn’t believe a leaflet will change the world.

Nevertheless, a leaflet at the right time to the right person could make all the difference to them.

And, if you don’t believe me, read Vegan Outreach for personal testimonies to that effect.
