New York Times Century of Meat Table
Really excellent graphic from The New York Times which is a table that charts the consumption of meat from 1910 to 2008 in the United States. The good news is that the industry’s advertising campaigns (e.g., “Where’s the beef?” and “The Other White Meat”) appear to be relatively ineffective. Nevertheless, consumption of various types of meat listed either increases (some significantly: chicken) or stays essentially at the same level.

Hastings Vegan Dining Club
Nearly a full house last night when 14 members of the monthly Hastings Vegan Dining Club got together for one of our, er, monthly get togethers. The three-course menu consisted of delicious Cream of Artichoke Soup, Tofu Kiev with Roast Potatoes, Braised Red Cabbage and Steamed Broccoli, and vegan/gluten-free Black Forest Gateau! It was Julia’s birthday. So, she had the honour to cut the cake. Next month is our third anniversary, which will celebrating at the Flavours of India Restaurant. The following two meals in April and May will be in our homes. Picnics are planned for the summer months when, hopefully, the weather will be nicer. A great time was had by all last night. As is customary, the meal was followed by free-flowing chat, including gossip, local restaurant reviews, gentle bantering of each other, updates on companion animals, shoes, shoes and shoes. And, of course, food.
