Sponsor Vegan Ian and Help the Gorillas!

Ian's the cute one. That's also Ian holding him.
The Grumpy Vegan invites you to join with me in support of fellow vegan Ian Bergin who will run the London Marathon on Sunday, April 26 in support of the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. “They do the incredible work of protecting mountain gorillas and their habitats in a very dangerous place,” said Ian. On his page where you can support him, Ian writes

This will be my 7th marathon. Yes, I should have learned by now. I have a modest aim for this race: getting round the course without dying. I hope that doesn’t sound too cocky… If there’s anyone reading this who has some sway over the weather on 26th April in London, may I request cool and cloudy? Ta.

Sarah Richards

Sarah was co-moderator of the Manchester Vegan Society.
The Grumpy Vegan didn’t know Sarah Richards but she sounded like one helluva of good vegan.

Our friend Sarah Richards, who has died aged 46 of breast cancer, combined her passions for knitting, veganism and social networking with an energy that was inspiring. In 2002, she founded the Bolton Knitting Noras with her friend Bev Adam, meeting in a cafe each Sunday to knit and chat. When they launched a Yahoo group, the membership rose to almost 80 and similarly named circles popped up around Britain.

But mostly she will be remembered for her warmth, humour and generosity. After she died, one friend recalled how a normally monosyllabic and grumpy taxi driver was joking away within minutes of Sarah getting into his cab. Another remembered how, lost in Robin Hood’s Bay, North Yorkshire, she was guided into a pub by the sound of Sarah’s big, hearty laugh.

Brighton Vegan Fayre Feedback

The responses received to the report on the Brighton Vegan Fayre (see also) were, with one exception, supportive and in agreement with the comments made. I work from the assumption that the comments sent were done so in confidence. I make no assumption that I have permission to publish them here. There is no doubt, however, that this debate will continue here and elsewhere.
