Thought for the Day

Until we have the courage to recognize cruelty for what it is – whether its victim is human or animal – we cannot expect things to be much better in this world… We cannot have peace among men whose hearts delight in killing any living creature. By every act that glorifies or even tolerates such moronic delight in killing we set back the progress of humanity.

LAWS and Michael Foster MP

Michael Foster MP
The Grumpy Vegan is a member of the Labour Party (groan, yes, I know) and serves on the volunteer board of the Labour Animal Welfare Society. I’m working with LAWS on a Web site which will clearly show Labour’s accomplishments for animals.

On Friday, Michael Foster, who is the Labour MP for Hastings and Rye, met with me at my office to discuss LAWS and animal welfare.

Friday was a visit to the […] Britannia Centre [and] visited Kim Stallwood who is offering media advice to Laws (Labour Animal Welfare Society).

Thought for the Day

Animals are capable of feeling physical pain and mental distress. The Green Party believes that animals have the right to live free from suffering, animals must be legally protected from mistreatment by humans.

We oppose all forms of factory farming and the fur trade. Greens campaign for an immediate ban on all sports that involve cruelty to animals and the ending of animal experimentation.

Greens will champion greater action to stop all forms of animal abuse and suffering in London, including:

A GLA Animal Protection Strategy for implementation across the capital.

Work to get an animal protection officer in every borough.

Produce comprehensive information on vegetarian and vegan diets.

Promote a cruelty-free economy and cruelty-free practices including cruelty-free rules on GLA purchasing.

Action to end London’s fur trade.

Animal protection officer success: London now has an animal protection officer thanks to Green Assembly Members. Green Party candidate Noel Lynch said “Cruelty to animals has no place in a civilised society, and in the London that Greens want every effort will be made to stamp it out.”

The Animal Welfare Policy of the London Green Party.

Thought for the Day

Through symbolism based on killing animals, we encounter politically laden images of absorption, control, domain, and the necessity of violence. This message of male dominance is conveyed through meat eating – both in its symbolism and reality.
