Shambo Taken to be Slaughtered

Shambo’s Web cam now shows an empty stall. He’s been taken for slaughter. All because he’s tested positive to a routine Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) skin test. This means that he is suspected, not proven to carry Bovine TB. Under current British government policy, any animal suspected of carrying Bovine TB must be killed. He is a very healthy bull. If TB were to develop, he can be expected to make a full recovery given appropriate care.

What this means is that government policy toward farmed animals is to benefit the farmer, not the animals raised to be killed and eaten. In other words, its all about how much money can be made off the backs of animals.

The significant difference in this tragedy is that Shambo is considered by the Hindu Skanda Vale Monastery to be a terrestrial representative of Nandi, Lord Shiva’s bull.

Isn’t refreshing to see for a change an organized religion defending an animal’s life rather than calling for their murder?
