{"id":737,"date":"2008-05-27T05:01:50","date_gmt":"2008-05-27T09:01:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/?p=737"},"modified":"2008-05-27T05:01:50","modified_gmt":"2008-05-27T09:01:50","slug":"737","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/27\/737\/","title":{"rendered":"Thought for the Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems that when the U.S. agribusiness isn&#8217;t exploiting animals it&#8217;s doing its best to (1) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/05\/13\/us\/13immig.html\">employ illegal aliens<\/a>, (2) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hsus.org\/press_and_publications\/press_releases\/americaneggboard051508.html\">illegally use tax dollars in defence of factory farming in the democratic process<\/a> and (3) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/05\/15\/us\/15liver.html\">further abusing the democratic process to defend the indefensible<\/a> (see <a href=\"http:\/\/divisionstreet.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/15\/the-moore-report\/\">here, too<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>But there is some good news!<\/p>\n<p>In what the Grumpy Vegan thinks is astonishing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hsus.org\/press_and_publications\/press_releases\/cogestationvealcrates051408.html\">news<\/a>, <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Colorado Governor Bill Ritter signed landmark legislation prohibiting two controversial factory farm confinement methods. Specifically, the new law will phase out gestation crates and veal crates&#8212;individual cages that confine breeding sows and veal calves.<br \/>\n[&#8230;]<br \/>\nSB 201 phases out veal crates within four years and gestation crates within 10 years.
