{"id":41,"date":"2006-07-29T06:04:21","date_gmt":"2006-07-29T10:04:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/?p=41"},"modified":"2006-07-29T06:04:21","modified_gmt":"2006-07-29T10:04:21","slug":"41","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/2006\/07\/29\/41\/","title":{"rendered":"Conger Cuddling Banned!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Grumpy Vegan continues to be amazed by our ingenuity in the ways in which we use, exploit and degrade animals.  <\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/animalrights\/story\/0,,1832816,00.html\">Guardian<\/a> reports on the Royal National Lifeboat Institute&#8217;s annual fundraiser &#8220;conger cuddling.&#8221;  Apparently, for more than three decades the RNLI held this annual fundraiser in Lyme Regis, Dorset.  It involves people standing on six-inch-high wooden blocks while another team swing a 5-feet-long dead conger eel attached to a piece of rope.  Did anyone say human skittles?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, this nonsense has been stopped because an animal rights activist complained to the RNLI.  A rubber mooring buoy will now be used instead.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, there&#8217;s been much huffing and puffing.  Much what-is-the-world-coming-too?  And &#8220;Damn those animal rights activists&#8221;!  <\/p>\n<p>The RNLI does a wonderful job rescuing people off Britain&#8217;s shoreline.
