We are the living graves of murdered beasts,
\nSlaughtered to satisfy our appetites.
\nWe never pause to wonder at our feasts,
\nIf animals, like men, can possibly have rights.
\nWe pray on Sundays that we may have light,
\nTo guide our footsteps on the path we tread.
\nWe’re sick of War, we do not want to fight –
\nThe thought of it now fills our hearts with dread,
\nAnd yet – we gorge ourselves upon the dead.
\nLike carrion crows, we live and feed on meat,
\nRegardless of the suffering and pain
\nWe cause by doing so, if thus we treat
\nDefenseless animals for sport or gain,
\nHow can we hope in this world to attain
\nThe PEACE we say we are so anxious for.
\nWe pray for it, o’er hecatombs of slain,
\nTo God, while outraging the moral law.
