{"id":128,"date":"2006-11-20T10:50:09","date_gmt":"2006-11-20T14:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/?p=128"},"modified":"2006-11-20T10:50:09","modified_gmt":"2006-11-20T14:50:09","slug":"128","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/2006\/11\/20\/128\/","title":{"rendered":"The Animals\u2019 War"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure id=\"attachment\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 105px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IWMAnimalsWarBook.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IWMAnimalsWarBook.jpg\" class=\"size-full wp-image\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Juliet Gardiner's book is a good exploration of the issue but is mysteriously mute on such key areas of animal use as atomic, nuclear and chemical and biological warfare research and development with animals.<\/figcaption><\/figure>The Grumpy Vegan is not sure that he&#8217;ll be able to visit <a href=\"http:\/\/london.iwm.org.uk\/server\/show\/conEvent.992\"><em>The Animals&#8217; War<\/em><\/a> exhibition at the Imperial War Museum in London before it closes on April 22, 2007. But I did make sure to get a copy of the accompanying book of the same name by Juliet Gardiner. It is a &#8220;coffee table&#8221; sized-book and from a quick thumb through appears to be informative and well illustrated. Notwithstanding its subtitle, &#8220;Animals in wartime from the First World War to the Present Day,&#8221; it avoids all mention of animals used in the development of atomic and nuclear weapons. Further, the British Government&#8217;s chemical and biological warfare research laboratory, Porton Down, is similarly not included in the index.
