{"id":1181,"date":"2009-07-22T04:07:45","date_gmt":"2009-07-22T08:07:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/?p=1181"},"modified":"2009-07-22T04:07:45","modified_gmt":"2009-07-22T08:07:45","slug":"1181","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/22\/1181\/","title":{"rendered":"The Profit Question"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On one side of the Atlantic US Senator Saxby Chambliss demands US President Barack Obama&#8217;s nominee for Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs within the Office of Management and Budget, Professor Cass Sunstein, to write a letter saying that he <a href=\"http:\/\/animalblawg.wordpress.com\/2009\/07\/21\/sunstein-chambliss-and-the-pound-of-flesh\/\">promises to &#8220;respect&#8221; gun rights and &#8220;not take any steps to promote litigation on behalf of animals.&#8221;<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>While on the other side of the Atlantic the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.understandinganimalresearch.org.uk\/latest_news\/news\/87\/more_research_means_more_animals\/\">animal research business interests<\/a> celebrate a huge jump in the number of animals uses. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The most important message from the animal procedures figures for 2008 is that we are doing more and better research to find solutions to serious diseases. This is a continuation of the trend which saw funding of biomedical research increase in real terms by over 50% in the decade to 2006, while animal procedures increased by just 12.5% over the same period.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> And, again, on the other side of the Atlantic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freep.com\/article\/20090712\/NEWS06\/90711035\/Michigan-farmers--activists-at-odds-over-animal-treatment\">Michigan<\/a> and Ohio agribusiness are trampling democracy to protect their interests. <\/p>\n<p>Now, remind me. What do the poor babies have to worry about? Oh, yes.
