Both books are published by the redoubtable <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanternbooks.com\/\">Lantern Books<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanternbooks.com\/detail.html?session=cb0f5802208252b096206e2325c7ed34&amp;cat=16&amp;id=1930051344\"><em>Speaking Out for Animals<\/em><\/a>. In the introduction, Jane Goodall writes,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Kim W. Stallwood, in gathering together stories of determination and courage, stories emphasizing the power of individual action, has produced a book that will have an important impact on those who read it. The voices of the animal advocates speak from every page: some quietly, some with resonant shouts, together encouraging all who care about animal suffering to work even harder to effect change.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1365\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment_1365\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 118px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/SpeakingOutforAnimals.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1365\" title=\"SpeakingOutforAnimals\" src=\"http:\/\/grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/SpeakingOutforAnimals.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"108\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_1365\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Speaking Out for Animals was the first of two anthologies of article from The Animals&#39; Agenda that I edited.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I recommend this anthology as a relatively easy read and a way to learn about animal issues through these heroic individuals.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3946\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment_3946\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 118px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Primer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3946\" title=\"Primer\" src=\"http:\/\/grumpyvegan.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Primer.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"108\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_3946\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The second anthology of articles from The Animals&#39; Agenda was A Primer on Animal Rights.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The second anthology is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanternbooks.com\/detail.html?session=cb0f5802208252b096206e2325c7ed34&amp;id=1-59056-003-5\"><em>A Primer on Animal Rights<\/em><\/a>. The book contains work by some of the leading authorities on animal protection issues, including: Jim Mason, Marc Bekoff, Mike Markarian, Betsy Swart, Norm Phelps, Wayne Pacelle, Pat Derby, Gene Bauston, Karen Davis, Richard Schwartz, Don Barnes, and many others. All articles are up-to-date and full of important facts. This anthology brings together the best of the investigative reporting articles that I published in <em>The Animals&#8217; Agenda<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>My paper, &#8220;Utopian Visions and Pragmatic Politics: Challenging the Foundations of Speciesism and Misothery,&#8221; was published in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palgrave.com\/products\/title.aspx?PID=256453\"><em>Animal Rights The Changing Debate<\/em><\/a> and the article, &#8220;The Animal Rights Movement Must Be Politically Pragmatic&#8221; from <em>The Animals&#8217; Agenda<\/em> was included in the 1996 edition of <a href=\"http:\/\/gale.cengage.com\/servlet\/ItemDetailServlet?region=9&amp;imprint=360&amp;titleCode=GOVVL&amp;type=3&amp;id=225530\"><em>Animal Rights Opposing Viewpoints<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Presently,\u00a0I&#8217;m completing my first book, <em><a title=\"Animal Dharma\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kimstallwood.com\/animal-dharma\/\" target=\"_blank\">Animal Dharma<\/a><\/em>, which explores what it means to care deeply about animals and discovers how we can live peacefully with ourselves and others by proposing four key values: truth, compassion, non-violence and interbeing, the interrelatedness of all.<\/p>\n<p>Also, I&#8217;m researching my second book, <em><a title=\"The Animal Rights Challenge\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kimstallwood.com\/animal-rights-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Animal Rights Challenge<\/a><\/em>, which\u00a0examines the animal rights movement, assesses society\u2019s response and proposes a strategy framing moral and legal rights for animals as part of a progressive agenda for social change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wrote the narrative that goes with the art by Sue Coe about Topsy, &#8220;An Elephant Never Forgets,&#8221; which is published in Blab!
